EnergaCAMERIMAGE & Cooke Optics TV Present
DOP Roulette
- A free and exclusive opportunity to have a direct conversation with a selection of leading cinematographers -
Leicester, UK – 17 November 2020 – This year Cooke Optics will be bringing an element of showbiz to Virtual Camerimage 2020 by finishing the cinematography festival week with a studio-based experiential event (in association with EnergaCAMERIMAGE and Cooke Optics TV) called DOP Roulette. The virtual event offers the public the exclusive opportunity to engage in direct conversations with a selection of top cinematographers around the world. The event will take place on Friday 20th November at 10am-12pm PST, 1-3pm EST, 6-8pm GMT, 7-9pm CET. Tickets are currently available for free on the Eventbrite website.
Hosted by comic actor and impressionist Anil Desai, who will be taking the role of the casino croupier, the event will see the roulette wheel spinning and transporting guests into different DOP conversation rooms in small groups of 2-4 people with a 20 minute duration. Part of the random fun is not knowing which DOP they will be spending time with!
Confirmed DOPs include: Barry Ackroyd BSC, Anthony Dod Mantle BSC DFF, Dan Mindel ASC BSC SASC, Nancy Schreiber ASC, Roberto Schaefer AIC ASC, Christopher Aoun BVK, Christopher Ross BSC, Laurie Rose BSC, Patrick Lin & Adam Habib at Pixar Animation Studios, Lawrence Sher ASC, Kate Reid BSC, Geoff Boyle NSC FBKS, Oliver Stapleton BSC, Rodney Charters ASC, Jess Hall ASC BSC, John de Borman BSC AFC, C Kim Miles CSC, Ahmad Al Morsy CSC, Ben Seresin BSC ASC, Matyas Erdely HSC, Kees Von Oostrum ASC, Neville Kidd ASC, Steven Poster ASC. Also joining are Nicolaj Bruel who is in main competition at Camerimage with Pinocchio and Rauno Ronkainen FSC, in main competition with Helene.
“Camerimage is such a special event. Last year Quentin Tarantino, Richard Gere and Danny DeVito came to the little town of Torun in Poland for a festival that hardly anyone outside the international professional camera department network has ever heard of. It is likely the only place in the world where film students can meet their cinematographer heroes. Queues might go around the block for lectures with Ed Lachman ASC or Vittorio Storaro ASC AIC, but despite their iconic status, they always have time afterwards to chat to every person waiting after the event or perhaps they might talk at the bar at one of the many industry parties at night.” Commented Catherine Crawley, Director of Marketing at Cooke Optics. “So what do you do when the event cannot happen in real life? Particularly as the novelty of online events has somewhat worn off and many are zoom-fatigued. As a result, I thought I'd bring my experience of hosting speed dating and cabaret events at The Pigalle in London to the mix, combined the cinematographer interview experience of Bipin Anand and Kieran Chauhan on the Cooke Optics TV team, then bounced some ideas off with our veteran Camerimage attendee Director of European Sales, Carey Duffy and voilà, somehow, DOP Roulette was born", concluded Crawley.
