Les Rois Mongols / The Mongol Kings

The Mongol Kings, directed by Luc Picard.

“This video is a compilation of the best shots of the movie The Mongol Kings, directed by Luc Picard. Shot in Montreal and it's suburbs, it recounts the events of October 1970. The film explores the lucid view of children on the adult world with it's lies and betrayals.”

DOP Francois Dutil CSC on his lens choice:
“For 7 years now, I been shooting with the Cooke S4/i’s.
At the beginning of every project, I think I’d like to try something else but I always come back to them.
I find them soft for the skin as I like to shot between T2-2.8 even outdoors combined with the Arri Alexa. I also use a Blackpearlescent filter for close up’s but not on anything else. The 40 mm is my favorite lens for close-ups.I really like the way S4/i’s hold detail, the sharpness is never too crisp, which I hate in digital cinema. They give me the closest look on digital to a 35 mm film look.
Often in grading I add a little bit of grain and a slight beauty box (defocus) to the skin tone and the trick is played.
