Ikea: Kings and Queens

A cinematic film about different characters ruling in their own kingdoms.

DOP Daniel Lindholm FSC on his lens choice
“Our goal was to make the cast and historic scenes look epic and beliavable. This way the comic twist becomes stronger when we cut to the actual Ikea home at the very end. The Cooke anamorphic lenses gave us the cinematic look that we were aiming for with the director. When you are working in great epoch period sets with a lot of craft in the costume and make-up departments as well you wan´t the film to have a strong look. But you still need to capture details and be confident about the focus even when it´s narrow. For me the Cooke anamorphic´s are reliable without feeling too sharp and digital. I was lighting the scenes like I would do in a feature film and wanted everything to look as ready as possible in camera. We used really wide lenses to show the scale of the sets and enhance the movement. The wides also pushed me to constantly find interesting angles. I always love to go in for the close-ups with slightly longer lenses as well to focus on the characters and get the beautiful bokeh the lenses give you. I had a compact set of lenses and used them all getting good variety between the shots.”
