“Fugitive Dreams is an anachronistic road movie about two drifters. It's a bit like a Tom Waits song come to life.”

DOP Peter Simonite ASC CSC on his  lens choice:
“The Film’s story is anachronistic and we wanted to create a look similar to Dorothea Lange’s Dust Bowl . I leaned heavily toward the vintage Cooke Speed Panchros for their wildly swirling bokeh and soft subtle vignetting. I felt they would give the image the special quality we were looking for to tell this story. Even though we needed a vintage feel, we also wanted the sharpness that contemporary lenses would give us, to achieve a visual balance in the storytelling.

Meredith at MPS rental house heard exactly where I was coming from creatively, and offered a modern update on the Speed Panchros, a set of Cooke Speed Panchro/i Classic lenses that were brand new, their construction based on the original Cookes but with all the consistency and sharpness of a modern set. This was perfect. I was so grateful to MPS for not just being a gear rental house but also helpful and responsive with a real creative decision.

Shooting with the Panchro/i Classics was gratifying on a creative and technical level and I was happy with the lens choice through the production. The images we were able to craft balanced the contemporary and the nostalgic, placing the storytelling squarely between past and future eras. ”
