How a lens is made
Cooke lenses are manufactured, calibrated and tested in our Leicester, UK factory using state of the art precision grinding equipment, right next to tried and tested machinery many decades old. Why? Because these older machines are actually unmatched by today’s standards and exacting tolerances is what we strive for. In addition, each of our lenses are hand-fitted.
Many of our team have been with us for their whole working lives, and even includes a father, son and grandson working side-by-side.
A while back we opened the shop floor to a visiting writer for the first time. See how a lens is made at Cooke through the eyes of Jon Fauer, ASC. His original article "Cooke Book: A Tour of the Cooke Factory in Leicester," published in Film & Digital Times newsletter, describes the entire process in words and many photo FDTimes Cooke Articles
We would to thank Jon for the opportunity to link to this article.
