Cinematographers Capture Fall TV Drama, Comedy with Cooke Lenses

Leicester, UK. –August 22, 2007. Cooke Optics Ltd., a premier manufacturer of precision lenses for the motion picture industry, reports that top cinematographers are shooting a number of highly anticipated new and returning fall television shows using Cooke S4 Prime lenses. Fast, light, and equipped with innovative /i technology that captures real-time lens data, the S4 line represents a major advance in fixed focal length lenses for 35mm format professional cinematography.

Three new shows premiering on NBC are shot using Cooke S4s, Journeyman, Bionic Woman, and Life. According to a survey of 3,000+ potential U.S. TV viewers taken by the research firm Online Testing eXchange, Bionic Woman and Journeyman are among the ten new shows generating the most buzz, with Bionic Woman topping the list. Alan Casco, ASC is shooting Journeyman, Ernie Holzman, ASC, is lensing Life (both shows supplied by Keslow Camera), and Robert McLachlan, ASC, is shooting Bionic Woman, which is supplied by Clairmont Camera.

Returning shows HBO’s Entourage, shot by Rob Sweeny and supplied by Otto Nemenz; CBS’ CSI: NY, shot by Feliks Parnell and Marshall Adams and supplied by Clairmont Camera; and USA’s Psych, shot by Michael McMurray and supplied by Clairmont Camera are also using Cooke S4 lenses, as are USA Network’s Burn Notice, shot by Roy Wagner, ASC; and Lifetime’s State of Mind, shot by Anette Haellmigk and supplied by Keslow Camera.

Robert McLachlan, ASC, Director of Photography for Bionic Woman, said, “I’ve always loved Cooke glass – the S4/i are my favorite lenses. They’re frighteningly sharp and the shows look great. Visual effects people love Cooke lenses too because they’re so crisp that it makes it easier for them to pull great green screen mattes. The lenses are just gorgeous.”
